Pueblo Chieftain transitioning to postal delivery

Starting July 15, the U.S. Postal Service will be delivering the Pueblo Chieftain to optimize resources amidst increasing digital readership demand.

The round-the-clock online news cycle has made digital products the first choice for breaking news, and print subscribers are increasingly engaging digitally. As such, the Chieftain will be putting renewed emphasis on the printed newspaper as a place where readers can dive into local news with more impact and context, feel-good community features, sports analysis and commentary — the stories you can’t get anywhere else.

'This transition to mail delivery should help us ensure more reliable service to our print subscribers,' said Chieftain Editor Zach Hillstrom. 'We remain steadfast in our commitment to bring Puebloans the news they need to make informed choices in their everyday lives, and this change should help ensure that the stories our reporters work so hard to produce will reliably arrive at subscribers’ homes.'

Like many other newspaper publishers, Gannett Co. Inc., which operates more than 200 daily local newspapers including the Chieftain, has already successfully introduced the approach in dozens of markets across the country and is expanding the initiative.

'For many years now, the printed newspaper has served as a culmination of the stories that will become our collective history, while our websites and mobile apps deliver the news of the day,' said Michael A. Anastasi, VP of Local News for Gannett. 'We know that by the time our informed readers pick up the paper, they know what happened yesterday – the print newspaper should provide additional context, to help readers better understand their community and the world around them.'

Readers can also visit chieftain.com, as well as to access the eNewspaper, a digital replica of the newspaper at chieftain.com/enewspaper.

Subscribers will receive letters in the mail before the delivery change is implemented. The notifications will also include instructions on accessing digital products.
